Why is this campaign necessary now?
After more than 160 years of distinguished service, The Black Watch of Canada faces new challenges — from supporting modern veterans and active reservists, to strengthening community outreach and preserving its historic legacy. The Foundation must raise $3 million to ensure that the Regiment can continue its vital work today and into the future.

Isn’t the military already publicly funded? Why does the Black Watch need private donations?
While the Canadian government funds operational military activities, many important aspects of Regimental life — including veteran support, education programs, museum and memorial upkeep, highland uniforms, Cadet training, and community engagement — rely entirely on private contributions. The Foundation ensures that these crucial services,
which enrich lives and build community resilience, are sustained and expanded.

How will my donation make a difference?
Every dollar raised will be strategically directed across key priorities:

-Investment Fund: Ensuring long-term financial health and flexibility for the Foundation.
-Veteran & Family Support: Mental health services, job transition aid, and emergency support.
-Youth & Cadet Programs: Leadership, fitness, and personal development for young Canadians.
-Community Engagement: Educational events, remembrance ceremonies, and public programs.
-Heritage Preservation: Enhancing the Museum, conserving artifacts, and maintaining the historic Armoury and memorials.

What is the impact of the Black Watch beyond military service?
The Black Watch is more than a military regiment. It is a vital community institution rooted in history, discipline, and service. Members respond to natural disasters, participate in public remembrance events, and mentor youth through Cadet programs. Their presence strengthens civic pride, fosters unity, and supports vulnerable citizens.

Why should I consider a multi-year pledge?
A pledge spread over up to five years enables donors to make a more significant impact while managing their annual giving. For example, a $25,000 gift can be given as $5,000 per year. Multi-year commitments also help the Foundation plan effectively and sustain programs over time.

What makes The Black Watch of Canada unique?
As Canada’s oldest Highland Regiment, The Black Watch blends military excellence with cultural heritage. Its historic role in nearly every major conflict, its close community ties, and its continued volunteer service at home and abroad make it a symbol of resilience, honour, and Canadian identity.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. The Black Watch of Canada Foundation is a registered charity in Canada. Tax receipts will be issued for all eligible contributions in accordance with CRA guidelines.

How do I make a donation or pledge?
You can donate securely online or request a pledge form to structure your gift over several years. For personalized giving discussions, we welcome a meeting with a campaign representative.

What legacy will I be part of by giving?
Your gift ensures that the values of honour, service, sacrifice, and community — exemplified by the Black Watch — endure. You will be part of a proud tradition that not only shaped Canada’s past, but continues to protect and inspire its future.
